Located in the middle of North Carolina in an area known as the Piedmont Triad, Davidson County has a total area of 567 square miles. The county is boarded by Davie, Forsyth, Guilford, Montgomery, Randolph, and Rowan Counties. For a comprehensive view of the county go to Visit Davidson County.
The estimated population in July 2023 was 174,804. Today the incorporated towns are Lexington, Thomasville, Denton, Midway, and Wallburg. The largest towns are Lexington and Thomasville. Lexington and Thomasville offer the advantages of small-town living with the progressive attitudes and opportunities of more urban areas because of their close proximity to the larger cities of Winston-Salem, High Point, and Greensboro.
During the last century, Davidson County was known as a furniture and textile center. Because of the outsourcing of furniture manufacturing, the county adapted to the changing employment conditions and embraced other avenues for revenue such as racing motorsports, viticulture, and tourism.
The county’s low tax base, proximity to interstates, plenty of undeveloped lands, and a trained workforce entices new industries to the county.
